FINDING PEACE WITH YOUR BODY:
A Body Image Guide for Women

My new book will be launching soon...

Research indicates that around 91% of women are either currently unhappy with their
bodies or have experienced negativity about their bodies in the past. Read that statistic again and
let it sink in: Almost 100% of women who have experienced shame, disappointment, and
negativity around their physical bodies.

We as a society and as a culture are up against an epidemic of body image issues and
need more resources to manage this. The number of negative messages that infiltrate us is severe.
The specific timing is right for this book—momentum is building for more emphasis on
keeping ourselves and our children safe from the problematic messaging that has led to increased
body self-hatred. More than ever, there are social media platforms and documentaries devoted to
talking about the dangers of filters, image doctoring, and diet culture.

However, even with all of these positive messages, there is the need for more voices of
resilience and hope around positive body image needs. Amid the positivity, negative messages
remain and are amplified throughout social media, the fashion industry, and even among doctors
and health care professionals. Each of these touch points impacts a young girl or woman’s belief
system about their own body.

Finding Peace with Your Body weaves together my own personal story as well as my
work as a psychotherapist to create an interactive self-help guidebook to help woman specifically
find harmony with their bodies.

One thing I’ve seen and experienced in my 13 years as a therapist with eating disorders is
that it can be a very hopeless process to work on creating a positive body image. For many
women, particularly those whose first memories of body hatred date back to pre-puberty, there’s
no foundation to return to where they felt good about their bodies. This can be a very hopeless
place to find yourself in and create a high level of uncertainty about if it is even possible to love
your own body. One thing that is intrinsically important in the process of accepting your body is
to know that others have come through the hardship and that you can too.

This book stands as a hope to other women—yes, it is possible to come to peace with
your body and no, that does not come through diets, exercise, or a new skin care routine.
